YASHWANT DESHMUKH

Born in Akola District in Maharashtra in 1963, Yashwant Deshmukh studied B.F.A. from the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, in 1988. In a career spanning over two decades  the artist has crossed many milestones. 

The artist draws inspiration from basic daily objects in his surroundings that include bucket, candle, window, tea cups and many more that are seen incorporated in his artwork, which are purely form oriented. By employing these objects the artist explores the metaphysics of space and form. Mostly conveying his art using acrylic on canvas, the artist prefers to keep his palette as minimalistic as possible. Yashwant Deshmukh says, “I don't go for ‘fresh’ colours since I often want to depict the lack of movement, or the deadness, the stillness of space. I mostly use grey colors.” At times, the colors chosen itself resemble the negative area in the paintings, describing the nature of the form. 

Our gallery has had strong associations with Yashwant Deshmukh whose art was displayed at a solo show titled “Monologue” (2012) as well as group show titled “Synergy” (2012). The artist has won multiple awards such as Kumari Ratan Wadke Awards, Shirgaonkar Awards, Mayo Awards, Maharashtra State Art Awards, and Handicapped Welfare Federation Awards, New Delhi from 1985-88.

The artist lives and works out of Mumbai. .
